Some good news at last - the Danby Health Shop
27 April 2016
On 1st April, Botton Camphill Community purchased a health shop in the neighbouring village of Danby. Here is their announcement:
"This is an important step for us, as it is our first independent venture outside the village of Botton. We are hoping slowly to expand and diversify this business, serving the local population and creating meaningful work opportunities. Three co-workers are taking a lead on this project, and a couple of Botton villagers (residents) are expressing an interest in working there.
It is hoped that the business will provide a source of income for our new independent community and that we will be able to offer volunteering and work opportunities to people of all abilities in the future.
Although the current business is remarkably successful given its rural location, we also believe that transport will be key to business expansion. We have identified that nearby towns and villages lack any organic & health food provision and we hope to be able to offer a delivery service to these areas.
With this priority highlighted in our business plan, we aim to purchase an electric vehicle (possibly with a charging station we could offer to the local community).
A young man called Scott recently visited our Botton Camphill Community and he was so inspired by what he saw and in particular by our determination to create something new and positive out of our recent difficulties, that he has started online fundraising to sponsor his running of the Yorkshire Three Peaks and Hadrian’s Wall later this year. He will donate the money he raises to help us procure the electric vehicle we believe can take our social enterprise forward. Please help him in his efforts - the link to his page is below."
